It’s time once again to shine the spotlight on a great new team member: please join me in welcoming Web Developer Matthieu Tremblay-Echegoyen! I recently had the chance to chat with Matthieu to learn more about his background, skills and interests. Here’s a look at our conversation:

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I wasn’t always sure that I wanted to go into IT. I had so many career options and didn’t know what to choose. But then someone told me, “If you like games and are good with computers, why not look into programming?” And now here I am, developing and enjoying life.

What would you say is your biggest achievement?

That’s hard to say. I’m still waiting for my kids to make me proud — but since I’m in my early 20s, I guess I’ll need to wait many more years! For now, I will just say that I’m proud to be the person that I am today with everything that I have in my life.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

I have a very good friend who was an Intern Developer at Devolutions, and he really liked it. So, when I had the opportunity to apply to be an Intern here, it was a no-brainer. I jumped at the chance and it was a great decision.

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

First, I don’t annoy my colleagues by asking an endless list of questions. Second, I am driven to constantly learn new things, and will research and find information on my own so I can use it. Third, I’m tenacious when it comes to getting tasks done. I strive to make sure that my code is complete, and that I consider every possible scenario when developing a new feature.

What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?

Currently, I’m working on a team that develops products for Devolutions’ employees to use. I’ve also been developing a translation application, and I use tools and platforms like Angular. It’s a good opportunity to discover these technologies in a more in-depth way.

What is your impression of working here?

I like the community and environment here, as it is very welcoming. I’ve had a lot of fun working with my colleagues. It’s nice to wake up and look forward to going to work!

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

I want to learn as much as possible. This includes supporting my own teams, as well as working with other teams to discover different and interesting projects.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I’m a city guy, so I like to go outside as much as I like staying home for a good video game or Netflix session. Also, I’m quite competitive, and so I’m always looking for a challenge. And speaking of challenges: I’ve been rock climbing a lot this past year and I can’t stop because it always gets harder. I love experiences that boost my adrenaline!

Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:

Well, I’ve noticed that most people talk a lot about IT and cyber security here, so I will do something a little different and share some advice on being healthier. Don’t forget to stay hydrated and reduce your meat consumption for the environment! Also, even though we all spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer, there’s proof that exercising makes you happier and helps you perform at work.
