First of all: if you’re wondering why I’m introducing you to someone you may have encountered on our blog over the last few months, it’s because Laurence is a graduate of our very successful internship program. After spending some time here at Devolutions learning about our culture and work environment, we invited her to become a full-time member of our team — and we were delighted when she said yes! So, now that you have the back story, here is a little more about Laurence so that you can get to know her a little better:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I studied fashion marketing at Cegep Marie-Victorin, and then decided to broaden my horizons by studying business and marketing at UQAM University. I was thrilled when I achieved my dream of participating on the marketing team at Les Jeux du Commerce 2019, which is the biggest academic competition in Eastern Canada. I had so much fun that I wanted to do it again. And so, a few days after the event, when the UQAM Happening Marketing team approached me and asked if I would be part of the Experiential Marketing team, I didn’t hesitate to say yes! Through these experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot about the IT world and interact with many IT professionals.
What would you say is your biggest achievement?
That’s a very good question! I’d have to say it’s a tie between the two achievements I already mentioned: being part of LesJeux du Commerce 2019 and the Happening Marketing. I gave my best effort in both and am proud that I followed through with my commitments.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
The company is so well managed. Our CEO David is the kind of leader that you want to work for. He’s such a down-to-earth person. And, of course, the employees are very well-treated. It’s a magical place to work.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
First, I would say that I’m a very hard worker and always willing to help. Second, I’d say that I’m a very fast learner. If I don’t know how to do something, then I’ll figure out how to get it done. Third, I’d say that I’m easy to work with and a good teammate. I can also be funny at times…at least I think I can. I don’t know — you’d have to ask my colleagues if I’m funny or not!
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?
I manage all of our social media accounts, and I’m working on the new French-language versions of our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. If you see a funny picture on Instagram or Facebook about our company, that’s from me! I also write blogs and work with our marketing team on special projects.
What is your impression of working here?
It’s so great! I really enjoy the people. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. It’s like a big family.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I would like to know much more about the IT world, and to enhance my marketing skills and knowledge. I would also like to help as many people as I can and introduce them to the wonderful world of Devolutions.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I love to read about marketing and listen to marketing-oriented podcasts. I also stay in touch with my university to provide some coaching and advice on next year’s Jeux du commerce. And of course, with the awesome volleyball courts that we have at Devolutions, playing volleyball has become a real passion!
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:
It’s a real pleasure to work with all of you and to develop my skills with an awesome company like Devolutions. Thank you so much for letting me be part of the community!
