Happy Monday, everyone!
Yes, I know that after a fun weekend it can be hard to jump back into work. But when you’re working with such a great team and in such an amazing place, you actually look forward to coming into work — especially because each Monday, it’s my honor to introduce you to a new Devolutions team member.
This week’s spotlight is on Julien Dufresne, the newest member of our Wayk Now development team. Like my colleague Richer Archambault, who you met a few weeks ago, Julien completed an internship with us in the past. We were so impressed by his attitude and performance that we asked him to join us full-time after he graduated, and were thrilled when he agreed.
Here’s a look at my chat with Julien, where I learned more about his background, role, goals and personality:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I spent two years studying computer science in college at Joliette, and then transitioned to software engineering at Polytechnique Montreal, where I developed several software solutions for our student group. I also completed my internship here at Devolutions and had a very positive learning experience.
What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
Being a part of the Wayk Now team is something that I’m very proud of, but I’d have to say that my biggest achievement so far is working with NAT traversal and WebRTC. We are actually integrating my implementation of NAT traversal in Wayk Now, and it will be part of a future release. I can’t wait for our users to see it!
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
As soon as I met David, our CEO, and Marc-André, our Wayk Now Project Manager, I felt that I was part of the team, and that’s what made me want to work here.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I would say that my biggest strength is perseverance. I always find a way to solve problems. I’m also very flexible, and love learning new things.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
I’m mainly working with Linux, and so my principal tool is CLion. When I need to work on Windows, I use Visual Studio.
What are your impressions about working here?
Working here is very nice. The environment is friendly and relaxed, the team is great, and the place is amazing. I could not be at a better organization.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I want to improve my programming skills and work on new technologies. I also want to learn more about the software development process.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
When I have some free time, I like to play Ultimate Frisbee with friends. I am also a big fan of hackathons, and have attended many in the past. I even organized one a few months ago called “Hackatown”, where the theme was smart city.
